Long-Read Sequencing Guide

Prerequisite: Complete the My Lab Setup guide first — you need PacBio or ONT sequencers added with their flow cells and correct utilization targets (85% for PacBio, 70% for ONT) before calculating.

  • A cost profile created in My Lab → Cost Profiles tab with long-read reagent costs

The Long-Read Calculator at /long-read-calculator is a guided wrapper around the same calculation engine used by the standard calculator. It pre-filters your sequencer list to long-read platforms and provides coverage presets to help new users get started quickly.

Important: If you have both short-read (e.g., Illumina) and long-read projects, use the Long-Read Calculator for the long-read component and the standard Calculator for short reads. For mixed-platform projects in one calculation, use the Multi-Sequencer Calculator.
